We have been fortunate in acquiring this wonderful piece of WW II automotive history, a `42 Ford GPW. It has been in possession of a keen collector for the last 40 years. This is Jeep is a very early Ford 'General Purpose Willy`s'. Following the Pearl Harbour attack in 1942 America became involved in WW II, which required a vast increase in the production of Jeeps. Because Willy`s could not cope with the increased demand, Ford was given permission to produce the GPW, using exactly the same parts as Willy`s, this to facilitate repairs. One small distinction between a Willy`s and a Ford was a stamped F on the Ford produced vehicles parts. This example has been fully fitted out with many original details. The vehicle has a later trailer, shovel, camouflage net, petrol jerry cans and spare wheel. A few years ago it was restored and mechanically overhauled, during which, naturally, particular care was given to preserve the Jeeps authenticity. Performance is as it should be. It also comes with side doors and soft-top, both in good condition. In short, this is an early `42 GPW in good condition.
