The first-generation Mustang Fastback is a true icon. Few cars captivate the imagination as Ford’s muscle car does. Not only among American car enthusiasts but also across the board of classic car enthusiasts, the Mustang generally engenders great appeal.

The Fastback is the series most appreciated body variant, with the early year version being particularly favoured. Considering the model’s debut in 1965, we can deduce that this ’66 model is an early example. Its stunning lines, esteemed 289 cubic inches engine, and beautiful colour combination make this particular Mustang a bullseye for Mustang enthusiasts. Moreover, this Fastback is equipped with some rather desirable extras.

Let’s start by describing the exterior of the Mustang, painted in the refreshing colour of Tahoe Turquoise. It’s not a very common colour, but it suits the Mustang’s character perfectly. This was also the finish the car wore when it was delivered to the dealer in Los Angeles back in 1966. This beautiful Fastback has been repainted, and it was clearly done with great expertise. The paint is smooth, deeply glossy, and carries a rich hue. The panels are all very well-aligned and fitting, creating equal gaps between the parts. The chrome work is nearly flawless, and the same goes for all the details, such as lighting and rubber parts. The Mustang sits on stunning American Racing wheels, which are almost as legendary among American car enthusiasts as the car itself.

Moving to the interior of the Fastback, it is equally beautiful. Once again, the original colours, ‘aqua and white,’ grace the Pony interior, which is partly original and in superb condition. The upholstery, floor carpets, door panels, and dashboard are all in an incredibly neat condition. Noteworthy for Mustang connoisseurs are the two additional gauges visible on the sides of the steering column. The time clock and tachometer were part of the beloved Rally-Pac, as the package was officially called. They make this Mustang an exceptionally attractive car. In the full-length console, the gear lever of the 5-speed Tremec transmission is sited, a highly cherished accessory.

Under the hood, the Mustang is powered by the potent 289 cubic inches V8 engine producing 200 horsepower, in this case, in the two-barrel setup. 200 horsepower might not sound like an explosive amount of power, but the Mustang never leaves you feeling underpowered. The V8 delivers a robust amount of torque, and the power is more than sufficient to give you a solid push in the back. What’s more important than the horsepower figure is the immense amount of character that a Mustang carries. Driving, steering, and accelerating are all a joy with the Ford, thanks to its good suspension, pleasant steering characteristics, and, not least, the burble of the V8. Stepping on the large middle pedal, you’ll experience that the braking capabilities are also more than adequate.

In summary, this Mustang comes in a highly sought-after configuration and is in beautifully restored condition without being “over-restored.” It’s a top-notch car that will provide loads of enjoyment, both when admiring its appearance and most certainly during the driving experience.
