Beautiful, the sports cars from the 1950s. The DB2/4 is one of those that gives everyone an approving look. The stylish front, beautiful sloping roofline: the whole exudes pure luxury. And of course it was. The Mk III was the most refined version, with the necessary updates compared to the earlier versions.

Two years after the introduction of the DB2/4 MkII comes the MkIII, of which only 551 units were built between March 1957 and July 1959. The body of the Aston Martin does not change that much, the most striking is the grille in style of the DB3S, creating the characteristic Aston Martin face, drawn by Tickford designer Bert Thickpenny. It gives the car a more imposing look. The interior gets a new dashboard, with the counters more together in a cluster.

The three-liter DBA engine receives the necessary improvements in this series, including a stiffer block, stronger crankshaft and a new cylinder head with large valves, providing no less than 162 hp. The clutch and gearbox are also renewed. A Laylock overdrive becomes available and after the first run of 100 pieces, front disc brakes become standard rather than optional. With all these adjustments, the very fast and luxurious ‘GT’ is able to reach 193 kilometers per hour and to reduce this speed quickly if desired.

The beautiful DB2/4 shown here was first handed over to an owner on 15th April 1959. A certain H L Quartermaine from Buckinghamshire took delivery of the car through the Brooklands Agency. The car left the factory in the color Peony, so warm red with a black Connelly leather interior. The body of the car is neat and panel fittings are neat. The paint is also neat and has a beautiful, deep shine.

A five-speed ZF gearbox was installed. A stainless steel exhaust system provides a nice sound from the beautiful six-cylinder.
After a long stay in France since the 1990s, the car was bought by the current owner in 2007. A copy of the invoice for that purchase is present with the car. The car has already been restored to its current state. A neat restoration where the car was painted in a very stylish dark blue metallic color that fits very well with the lines of the car. The fits of the sheet metal are fine and the same applies to the chrome and the various rubbers.

The interior is also neatly in order with natural-colored leather upholstery that has a beautiful patina. A beautiful appearance without actual damage. The seats look classic, but the very good quality of the materials clearly shows that this is a beautiful DB2/4. The very nice dashboard with four gauges from Smiths that can be seen through the large three-spoke steering wheel not only looks beautiful, it also functions. All controls do what they are supposed to do. The beautiful carpets and very protruding door panels reveal that this is a very neat Aston Martin.

The technology of the car was completely overhauled during the restoration and clearly well maintained. A very good driving example, with which you can make beautiful rides. A car will not feel much more luxurious, richer, this Aston Martin provides the real ‘Grand Turismo’ feeling.
