In 1954, introduced the Isabella. Initially, the two-door sedan was due to be called Hansa 1500, but when the test cars were labeled as Isabella, both the employees and the press were so enthusiastic that the more graceful name was quickly chosen, although Hansa 1500 continued to be found on the car in the first few years. In 1957, Borgward decided to create a sleeker 2+2 coupé, considered by many Borgward enthusiasts as the most beautiful car the brand has ever produced.

The Borgward was not a cheap car, considerably more expensive than Ford and Opel competitors although less expensive than a Mercedes-Benz. A self-supporting body was not common at that time, and the press praised the car. Under the hood, you would find a 1,493 cc four-cylinder engine producing 75 horsepower.

This Isabella was first delivered in February 1958. This Borgward is stunning, and that is an understatement. It features a very stylish Ocean Blue Metallic paint, beautiful chrome accents, and an interior in excellent condition. The car has been previously restored, and it’s evident that it has led a very peaceful life of luxury afterward. The paint is beautiful, the fittings are correct, and the good state of rubbers and other elements indicates that the car has suffered little wear.

The interior is equally impressive, offering a beautiful space to sit in. The two-tone upholstery, the dashboard in exquisite art-deco style, the door panels with diamond-shaped stitching, and the wooden finishings along the top of the interior create a stylish and cohesive ensemble.

Driving the Borgward is a fantastic experience. Sitting in the comfortable seat, the gearshift works its way smoothly through the four gears. The engine feels lively, and driving it is a very enjoyable experience. The brakes are more than fit for purpose, as are the suspension and steering. Everything indicates that this is a car that has received proper care and maintenance.

If you’re looking for a special, stylish classic car that is fully prepared for many more enjoyable classic miles, then this coupé is an excellent, not everyday choice.
