It does not matter how many American cars you have ever seen up to now. This one is something unique. This 1953 Bel Air Handyman has been restored to include a number of fantastic upgrades. The suspension was rebuilt to house front double wishbones, given a V8 and fully reupholstered a more modern interior. The 1950 Chevrolet Bel Air was the pinnacle of the brand’s range. To appeal to the elite they named the car after the Los Angeles upmarket suburb. This Chevrolet Bel Air is one for the absolute enthusiast of special American vehicles.

During the restoration, both bodywork and the chassis were taken back to bare metal and now look great. The high-quality paintwork affords good protection from the elements. The authentic and professional restoration means its panelwork is nicely aligned and the adorning brightwork has a flush fitting. Add to this the Hot Rod icon Chip Foose rims shod in correctly sized white walls. The car was fitted from front to back with a stainless steel exhaust system. The fetching colour scheme is beige over anthracite two-tone with great lustre perfectly in tune with the car’s presence.

The interior retrim was done in high quality lovely red vinyl with all seats being refilled, leaving us with a very comfortable and striking area. The dashboard has been resprayed and a new steering wheel fitted. The carpets as well as the headlining are new. Normally we would not spend to much time mentioning the boot space, but we think it is worth an exception. The boot has been refurbished to include the metal strips to ease sliding your suitcases over. The dashboard is fitted with gorgeous Dolphin gauges. The odometer informs us the car has only travelled 1897 kilometres since restoration.

Mechanically this car has improved enormously compared to when it left the factory. Consider the front double Wishbone suspension, a huge 5.7 litre V8 with lots of Edelbrock components. The engine develops 256 hp and is by far faster than the original straight-six. Brakes and suspension have of course been upgraded to account for the improved performance. This car feels and handles quite modern.

Take time to look through the wonderful photo album included.

This top-quality Chevrolet Bel Air is one of a kind and something we seldom see.
