In 1978 managed to sell 46,778 Corvettes. This white C3 was one of them. Whilst over 46,000 in sales does not particularly make for a rare vehicle, one should quite rightly consider this 1978 Chevrolet Corvette C3 as being quite extraordinary.

In the last 43 years, it has only had four owners. Whilst that again is not particularly unusual, it is certainly unexpected to find that the car has done less than 3,000 miles in all that time. That is not all, everything has been kept over the last 43 years. The is a large file containing the original and precisely specified invoice, an EPA scorecard, the order document the dealer used when ordering the car, the original owner’s manual, the service booklet, every guarantee including those of the tyres and battery! Besides that, there are old Titles and even an original old brochure. We see a lot of cars pass through, however, we very rarely see the likes of this.

The car is not only a low mileage example but is fully original. How would you treat such a car, I hear you ask. The answer is simple: You win prizes! Lots of them. You can readily imagine the N.C.R.S., the National Corvette Restorers Society, does not dole out prizes randomly. It is as good a seal of approval as you are likely to get. The car has come first on multiple occasions with all certificates, scorecards and wimples having been preserved.

Which red-bloodied Corvette enthusiast orders a lovely C3 only not to ride in it? The first owner did just that. He did what more people should consider doing; he bought two identical cars. One for himself and one for his then underage daughter. When she eventually was allowed to drive it, she had to admit to her dad that after 1,420 miles she actually did not enjoy the car. He decided to sell it to the next owner who kept it for 15 years, doubling the mileage. The following owners did not drive the Corvette at all. Fortunately, they did appreciate that this Corvette was something special and so preserved the car perfectly.

Both the bodywork as well as the interior are completely original. The white fibreglass bodywork looks great and bars a few minor blemishes is in good shape. The car stands proudly on its 4 alloys in good used condition booted in the original tyres! The Targa roof is a neat fit and easy to remove. The flip-up headlights work exactly as intended.

The red interior forms a lovely contrast with the white exterior. The seats are covered in red leather, furthermore, the carpets are red as is the dashboard. All of it in fine full original condition.

Whilst this car has barely been used, the fact remains that it is all about the drive and the iconic sound of that V8 engine. This one has the 350 ci (5.7 litres) L48 engine powering the automatic

3-speed transmission. The engine develops a pleasing 185 Ps, that still allows this Corvette to effortlessly reach impressive performance levels. In short, this is a prize-winning Chevrolet Corvette C3 with a striking finish. Typically the kind of car that belongs in any serious collection, continuing what it does best: Winning prizes!
