1994, a shock through the motorcycle world. presents the 916, as a new supersport motorcycle. The design, the specifications, it is immediately clear that an icon has been born. Massimo Tamburini, responsible for design at Cagiva, to which Ducati then belongs, has put lines on paper that have not lost their power even thirty years later. In addition to the successes that the 916 manages to score with the press and owners, it is also motorsport that is so important to Ducati where the 916 scores exceptionally. In 1994 and 1995 Carl Fogarty wins the Superbike championship, in 1996 Troy Corser does it again and in 1998 Fogarty is champion again. It ensures a series of victories that gave Ducati an absurd hero status in those years. The 916 is a living legend.

The 916 makes way for the 996 at the end of 1998, actually a slightly modified 916 with just a little more cylinder capacity. The 998 was introduced in 2002, with the main achievement being a completely new Testastretta block, which succeeded the Desmoquattro. The narrower heads of the new block are completely new in design and the power is now 123 hp. Externally, there is little different from its predecessors, except for some smoother fairing.

Meanwhile, Ducati continues to score in the highest echelons of motorsport, now with drivers Ben Bostrom and Troy Bayliss, with motorcycles that enthusiasts immediately recognize by the Infostrada decals. It is therefore not surprising that Ducati comes up with special versions of these engines. We can say that Bayliss is the man of the moment and the Ducati 998S Troy Bayliss, limited to 400 pieces, is a very sought-after version.

The 998S differs from the regular 998 by, among other things, Ohlins shock absorber at the rear and the steering damper, the necessary carbon fiber fairing parts such as the ‘bellypan’ and colored mirrors. The Bayliss replica received even more updates, such as the Ohlins fork, more carbon parts such as the airbox and even better Brembo four-piston front brakes. The copy you see here is number 220 of 400 and that can be seen on the plaque on the yoke. The 998S is even more powerful than the S-less version, partly due to the shifting of the rev range. The S delivers an output of about 135 hp at 10,200 rpm. The sand cast crankcase is also too special not to mention.

This copy was recently fully prepared by a very well-known brand dealer who has a lot of knowledge about these models. The plaque and certificate are present, as well as the original cover and booklets. The original Termignoni exhausts are in a very good and beautiful condition, something that also applies to the beautiful V-twin block that is almost too beautiful to be hidden behind the hoods.
Everything about this bike shows that it is an exceptionally well-loved motorcycle. The connoisseur will immediately recognize the wide original cable holders in the right places on the frame, the tank is beautifully undamaged, the often replaced original rear lighting is all present and aftermarket accessories are conspicuous by their absence. Except for an open lid for the dry clutch, but no Ducatist will find that annoying.

A unique opportunity to get your hands on a beautifully maintained example of a beloved and highly limited Ducati!
