The Testarossa was destined to become one of the great Ferrari’s at its introduction in 1984 years later. The wedge-shaped coachwork and exclusive flat twelve-cylinder were in itself enough to launch this car into stardom. Add the many TV appearances and a 300 km/hr top speed and all the ingredients are present to create the ultimate 80’s poster car.

Its wild looks, fantastic engine and impeccable road handling immediately made this car a great success. The sales figures support the former statement with 7,177 Testarossa’s sold between 1984 and 1991. Our car was supplied from new in St. Moritz, Switzerland in 1986. It arrived in the Netherlands in 1995. When the car got its Dutch yellow plates it had only done 25,000 km. Currently, the odometer reads 184,000 km, with the car still in great shape.

The previous owner had decided to take full advantage of the Ferrari. Looking at the mileage we are sure he succeeded in his quest. The car has always been perfectly looked after over the years, with a full transmission rebuild at 161,000 km as well as a very major engine service carried out by a well known Dutch Ferrari specialist. The car’s current condition is best described as being used but in great shape for its age and mileage.

The bodywork is neat with nice and thin, correctly aligned panelwork. The red paintwork has been resprayed for cosmetic reasons and is still in fine condition. This is a so-called “Monospechio” Testarossa fitted at a later date with a second wing mirror. It would be easy to revert to the “Monospechio” version, should you wish so. The wheels with their central wing nuts are all in good shape and shod in the correct Michelin tyres.

The interior trim is fitted out with black carpets and leather upholstery. The door cards, leather and carpets do show some signs of wear. It is great to see that someone really fully enjoyed this Ferrari instead of keeping it wrapped up in a heated garage. The leather upholstery is still quite neat. This is thanks to the fact the previous owner used the car on long trips. All instruments are in good working order including the air-con that comes as standard with top-class cars. Inevitably a car this well used will show signs commensurate with its age and mileage.

Mechanically the car has had excellent maintenance, solely carried out by brand specialists. During the major service at 161,000 km besides the aforementioned gearbox overhaul, most of the gaskets and bush seals were replaced together with new spark plugs, full fluid change and many of the hoses. The car has always been regularly serviced. A new distribution was fitted some 300 km ago in March 2021. The mileage is accurate and backed up by the invoices and MOT rapports.

It should not come as any surprise that a car would not get to this kind of mileage if it hadn’t been treated and driven with TLC and been correctly serviced. Driving this car is still a veritable feast. Cars that have been regularly used simply drive so much better than mainly kept on the shelf. The straight twelve-cylinder engine is pure artistry, emitting that lovely exhaust note that seems to modulate with every change of the revs. The transmission works with precision and with that typical Ferrari click

when engaging a gear. Good tyres, fine brakes and a fantastic chassis all contribute to superb driving enjoyment. Driving a Testarossa is incomparable to any other experience. In respect of pedestrian safety, a car with a low nose like the Testarossa is unlikely to receive type approval. An additional advantage of its low nose is the excellent field of vision. Driving this Ferrari is not intimidating and easy in city driving, in contrast to some of the other 80’s supercars.

The accompanying paperwork is perfectly in order. It has the original car wallet, many invoices and rapports. This is a fabulous Ferrari Testarossa Monospechio in great used condition you don’t have to worry about a mile more or less. Better still, this Ferrari is only a couple kilometres short of becoming a member of an illustrious society, the 200,000 km plus Ferrari club! Finally driving a classic is far more fun than polishing one.
