The Ford Escort will be, of course, familiar to many car enthusiasts, but where have they all gone? Here and there, we still come across a nice Escort, but finding a completely restored and overhauled special Mexico edition? That’s something special.
This beautiful Ford Escort, finished in Signal Orange with a black vinyl interior, was registered in Switzerland in 1972 and delivered there. Today, an authentic Escort Mexico is very rare and almost impossible to find, especially not one the presented in such a prime state. This is a Mexico edition; a special series to celebrate Ford’s success at the London Rally. Hannu Mikkola and Gunnar Palm won this rally in 1970.
When it comes to restoration and overhaul, opinions on these definitions can often differ. That is certainly not the case with this specimen. Here we are talking about a ‘bare-metal’ restoration, where the entire car was completely restored and overhauled. Take a look at the photos and judge for yourself. A Swiss Ford specialist took care of this car and rebuilt it. In principle, we find this quality of restoration in cars in the high to very high price range, and on close inspection of the car, we can only conclude the quality level is higher than when this Ford left the factory in 1972. Since the restoration and overhaul work, this Ford hasn’t seen much asphalt. Only 1,200 km have been driven by this Escort.
They are fantastic fun cars! With 86 hp and a weight of only 800 kg, the words ‘light and nimble’ quickly come to mind. And that’s certainly true for this Ford.

De Ford Escort is bij menig autoliefhebber natuurlijk bekend, maar waar zijn ze toch gebleven? Her en der komen we nog wel eens een leuke Escort tegen, maar een totaal gerestaureerd en gereviseerd exemplaar in de speciale RS Mexico editie? Dat is iets bijzonders.
Deze prachtige Ford Escort, uitgevoerd in Signal Orange met een zwart vinyl interieur, werd in 1972 geregistreerd in Zwitserland en aldaar afgeleverd. Vandaag de dag is een authentieke Escort Mexico zeer zeldzaam en bijna niet meer te vinden en zeker niet op een niveau waarin dit exemplaar zich bevindt. Dit is een RS Mexico uitvoering; een speciale serie om het succes van Ford tijdens de Rally van London te vieren. Hannu Mikkola en Gunnar Palm wonnen deze rally in 1970.
Als we het hebben over een restauratie en een revisie, dan kunnen de meningen over deze definities nog wel eens uiteenlopen. Dat is zeker niet ter sprake bij dit exemplaar. Hier spreken we dan ook van een ‘bare-metal’ restauratie, waarbij de gehele wagen compleet werd gerestaureerd en gereviseerd. Bekijk de foto’s en oordeelt u zelf. Een Zwitserse Ford specialist nam deze auto onder handen en bouwde de auto opnieuw op. In principe vinden we deze kwaliteit van restauratie bij de auto’s in de hoge tot zeer hoge prijsklasse en met een grondige blik op de wagen kunnen we dan ook concluderen dat het kwaliteitsniveau hoger is in vergelijking met toen deze Ford de fabriek verliet in 1972. Sinds de restauratie- en revisiewerkzaamheden zag deze Ford niet veel asfalt. Slechts 1.200 km legde deze Escort af.
Het zijn fantastisch leuke auto’s! Met 86 pk en een gewicht van slechts 800 kg komen de woorden ‘light and nimble’ al gauw voorbij. En dat is deze RS zeker!

Der Ford Escort ist vielen Autoliebhabern natürlich ein Begriff, aber wo sind sie geblieben? Hin und wieder stößt man auf einen schönen Escort, aber ein komplett restauriertes und revidiertes Exemplar in der RS Mexiko-Sonderedition? Das ist etwas Besonderes.
Dieser wunderschöne Ford Escort in der Farbe Signalorange mit schwarzem Vinyl-Interieur wurde 1972 in der Schweiz neu geliefert und zugelassen. Heutzutage ist ein authentischer RS Mexiko-Escort sehr selten und fast unmöglich zu finden und schon gar nicht auf dem Niveau dieses Exemplars. Es handelt sich hier um die Mexiko-Version; eine Sonderserie zur Feier von Fords Erfolg bei der London Rallye. Hannu Mikkola und Gunnar Palm gewannen im Jahr 1970 diese Rallye.
Wenn wir über eine Restaurierung und eine Überholung sprechen, können die Meinungen über diese Definitionen manchmal unterschiedlich sein. Das ist bei diesem Exemplar sicherlich nicht der Fall. Wir sprechen hier von einer „Bare-Metal“-Restaurierung, bei der das gesamte Auto komplett restauriert und revidiert wurde. Sehen Sie sich die Fotos an und urteilen Sie selbst. Ein Schweizer Ford-Spezialist hat sich um dieses Auto gekümmert, er hat das Auto komplett neu aufgebaut. Prinzipiell finden wir diese Qualität der Restaurierung meistens nur bei Fahrzeugen im hohen bis sehr hohen Preissegment. Bei genauer Betrachtung des Fahrzeugs können wir sogar feststellen, dass das Qualitätsniveau im Vergleich zu dem Zeitpunkt, als dieser Ford das Werk im Jahr 1972 verließ, eigentlich höher ist. Nachdem alle Arbeiten beendet waren, war der Ford nicht mehr viel im Einsatz, das Auto legte nämlich nur 1.200 km zurück.
Es sind fantastische Spaßautos! Bei 86 PS und einem Gewicht von nur 800 kg fallen mir schnell die Worte „leicht und wendig“ ein und dieser Ford ist es auf jeden Fall.
