If in the 60’s you wanted a luxurious saloon with sports car performance, you could not ignore the Mk II 3.4 & 3.8. With outputs of 210 and 220 hp they were seriously fast and comfortable cars. There was good reason that the police drove them. They had to keep up with Jaguar driving bank robbers and their ilk. It comes as no surprise they choose a Mk II for the tv-series Morse.

Our Mark II is the popular 3.8 six-cylinder version. Still fast especially in combination with a manual transmission with overdrive. The top was in excess of 200 km/hr and 0-60 mph in a respectable 8.5 sec. The mark II made its entrance in 1959 and our one is an early 1960 example. In the mid-80’s the car came over to Holland and was subjected to a 10 year restoration plan under the auspice of a Jaguar-specialist.
The bodywork is still in excellent shape as is its paintwork, brightwork, rubbers and other details. The perfect alignment is as expected. The solid heavy doors shut with a reassuring clonk. Today a Mk II still feels as solid as a rock, a car at the top of its game.

The quality of the materials used internally is still very much in evidence. The leather seats reflect a life of being used, lending a desirable element of patina. Gauges and switching gear all work and appear in excellent condition.
The 3.8 straight-six was completely rebuilt and treated with all due care and respect thereafter. This power plant is still in formidable health and realises the expectation of its 220 hp with aplomb. It has a 4-speed manual gearbox with overdrive. Sportiveness and supples appear to go together in effortless fashion.
A large file of invoices and the original service booklet, owner’s manual and original workshop manual are all present. You are unlikely to need them even though it is always nice to flick trough them.
Simply stated; this Mk II is a splendid car in excellent shape, with a similarly fine colour scheme.
