XK140: The British Gentleman with C-Type Power

If the XK120 was Jaguar’s stylish calling card in the post-war years, the XK140 is its confident successor, flashing a smile and saying, “I can do everything he could — only better.” And honestly, it truly can.

Factory-Fitted with a C-Type Cylinder Head

The XK140 was already an outstanding car, but the one we have in our collection is truly something special. This is a “Special Equipment” XK140 — meaning it left the factory fitted with the coveted C-Type cylinder head, the same engineering marvel found in the legendary C-Type Le Mans racers. More power, higher revs, an even richer driving experience. This isn’t just any XK140; it’s an XK built with a purpose.

And that’s not all. This car has undergone a full “bare-metal, body-off” restoration, meticulously carried out by a renowned Jaguar specialist in the Netherlands. Everything was stripped down to the bare chassis — not a bolt or screw was left untouched. You can see it and feel it in every detail. The restoration and mechanical overhaul exceeded €150,000, ensuring this Jaguar was brought back — and arguably elevated beyond — its original factory condition.

Then there’s the visual impact. Finished in Pacific Blue — a color that’s stunning in photos but absolutely mesmerizing in person — paired with dark blue leather, gorgeous chrome accents, and those timeless lines. This is Jaguar at its most beautiful.

Naturally, this example comes with a Jaguar Heritage Certificate confirming its original specifications and rare ‘SE’ configuration.

A Brief History of the XK140

Introduced in late 1954 as a 1955 model, the XK140 was a true evolution of the XK120. It offered more legroom, improved suspension, better brakes — and for the first time, an optional automatic transmission.

Visually? A little fuller, a little more assertive. Like a perfectly tailored tweed jacket with slightly broader shoulders. The bumpers were beefier, signal lights were added atop the front bumper, and a chrome strip now adorned both the hood and the trunk.

Under the hood sat the proven 3.4-liter inline-six with twin overhead camshafts — an engine that not only sounded glorious but delivered genuine performance. Standard output was 190 hp, but if you opted for the SE model with the famed C-Type head (known as the “MC” in America), you gained an extra 20 horses. The result? A top speed of 200 km/h (124 mph) and a 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) sprint in just over eight seconds.
