In 1974 the voluntary Aspach fire service was ever so proud of its prized possession, a lovely 109. The car entered into service on the 2nd of December of that year and remained associated with the brigade until 2008. As such it is a typical example of a fire engine: perfectly maintained and with low mileage, currently standing at 17,120 km. When not in use it was always kept in a heated garage and later was sold to a fanatic Land Rover collector.

The bodywork has developed a fine patina and still imposes. The aluminium bodywork is by and large uncorroded. A typical area of concern is usually underneath the doors. There are no such worries with our car with everything being in pristine condition. The previous owner completely had the bodywork restored. The original chassis had suffered during its working life and the good care afforded has left us with a pristine looking chassis. The original panelwork also still looks great. The paintwork shows signs of its past and is commiserate with the age of the car. The original wheels have good quality tyres in the correct size. The presence of the sirens and flashing lights add allure with the added benefit of them being in good working order.

Inside is in a fully original state and still looks fantastic. As this type of vehicle was often used to transport the crew, it is not surprising this Land Rover 109 can accommodate 10 people! That is not all, the roof rack offered ample space to carry any fire fighting equipment needed. All the equipment is very functional and in good working order. The upholstery and carpets are all of a sturdy design in keeping with the car’s intended use. It is just such a glorious time capsule.

The Land Rover has, of course, selectable 4-wheel drive with high and low gearing modes. The 2.6 straight-six engine manages 84 Ps coupled to a 4-speed gearbox. Both engine and gearbox work perfectly as intended. An additional advantage of its petrol engine is that it is still welcome in town centres. The brakes are more than up to the job and the suspension has been perfectly cared for. The car has always enjoyed the very best maintenance available.

This Land Rover has a document of its inclusion in the fire service, a parts manual and general information relating to its past.

This is a delightful 1974 Land Rover 109 fitted with the popular 2.6 litres straight-six engine, a wonderful low mileage on a restored chassis. What else could you possibly wish for?
