That we rarely see one of these is not surprising, as this is the absolute top model of the 1975 Santana line-up. The 1975 Land Rover Santana Series 3 109S Especiale used to cost an eye-watering 360,000 Peseta just to accessorise. More than the cost of many other Land Rover. Since the late 60’s Land Rover and Santana had been working together. That cooperation ended in the early 80’s because of Santana’s overwhelming success that did not reflect well on Land Rover’s standard offerings. Where Land Rover were happy with their versions, Santana aggressively kept on adding small improvements to tender as good as possible to its client’s wishes. No wonder the relationship cooled significantly.

This example has come to us straight from its first, Spanish family. It was a present from a husband to his wife. Besides transporting whilst their children were all still at home, it also offered space to transport the paintings she made. Once the children had fled the coup, she gave the car to her nephew. He occasionally used the car on his estate, keeping the mileage very low. The documentation shows the car belong to a family that cared for its cars. The car we see is the Land Rover Santana 109 Series 3 Especiale, the absolute top of the range offering room for 10 persons. It has a mileage of just 79,398 km.

The condition of the bodywork and paintwork are commiserate with car’s age. The warm Spanish climate has kept any chassis rust at bay with only a small amount of corrosion under the doors. The interior has a neatly worn condition.

Mechanically it is in good health. The car has never had to work hard other than to travel up the gravel paved driveway of a nice Spanish villa. The engine is virtually indestructible, offering a heap of low rev torque. Both brakes and transmission work as intended.

The accompanying documentation shows the Santana has always been perfectly maintained. Its whole history has been meticulously kept from day 1.

Whether you intend to take nearly the whole football team for a long weekend, have a large family or are just on the lookout for the most attractive “Four by Four by Far”, this is the perfect candidate!
