This really is super rare. A 1956 model Capri Hardtop Coupé. The car was first on the roads in 1955 becoming one of the first Lincoln Capri’s from the second series. The Lincoln Capri was a car from the “full size luxury car” segment.

The car has been kept in wonderful original condition. What really makes this car stand out from the crowd is the manner of its documentation. The original bill of sales, original guarantee certificates and

owner’s manual are all present and correct. How we got hold of the car is also quite unique in itself. This car only ever had one private owner. He sold the car to the Murphy Auto Museum in Oxnard, California, the United States. The Oxnard museum occasionally changes its collection to accommodate new cars and so sometimes has to sell one of its cars. When we heard of this car coming on the market, we did not waste any time in adding this unique limousine to our own collection.

The bodywork is completely original and in excellent shape. The correctly aligned panelwork is nice and thin. The chrome brightwork, grill and bumpers are also in fine original condition. The car has a brilliant two-tone finish of a Starmist white roof over a Summit Green bodywork. The fact it still has its original paintwork and is in very good condition considering the car’s age is truly unique.

Inside the car the Capri has developed a lovely patina. Everything looks and is 100% original. The upholstery is showing wear commiserate with its age. The carpets and head lining are the original ones. The instruments and controls are so typical for that era and lend the interior a lovely “space-age” feeling. Naturally everything is in good working oder.

Mechanically the car is also in great shape. The Murphy museum mainly houses a rolling collection, that means everything there can be driven. This Lincoln Capri is mechanically very fit. The 6.0 litre Y-Block V8 developed 285 Ps which is always more than ample to propel this large limousine with all due speed. It has a 3-speed Turbo-Drive automatic transmission. The brakes and suspension both operate as they should. This Lincoln Capri does not need anything for you to start enjoying the open road.

Looking over the amount of documentation we cannot come to any other conclusion than that the car is exceptionally well documented. The original bill of sales describes how the car was ordered. It clearly states the first owner chose a 1956 Lincoln Capri Hardtop Coupé finished in Starmist White over Summit Green, White Wall tyres, radio, heating, power assisted brakes, tinted windows and right side wing mirror. The total costs, including Sales Tax came to $ 4,080.- In addition many receipts, a workshop manual and a number of articles relating to the Lincoln Capri were retained. Together with the aforementioned guarantee certificates this all adds up to this Lincoln being a unique collectors car.

What a wonderfully documented unique 1955 Lincoln Capri Hardtop Coupé from its first owner it is ready for its next owner.
