We have a quite the stunning 1970 Maserati Mexico available. This fully restored and mechanically overhauled example is in brilliant condition. The Mexico is a wonderful design that arose from the pen of Virginio Vario, then working for Vignale. The Mexico should be considered as the coupé version of the Quattroporte from the same generation of Maseratis and also shares most of the technology used in the four door sedan.
The bodywork is excellent. During the restoration the body was taken back to bare metal, repaired where needed before being put back together again. The panelwork looks just fine with the alignment being very good. The fully original chrome brightwork looks great. The car has been fitted with the characteristic and period correct Borrani rims. The bodywork was resprayed in the beautiful green colour it now sports. The high quality of the paintwork has weathered really well showing only minor signs of wear and looks pristine to all intense and purpose.
In 2015/16 the interior was fully reupholstered in sumptuous brown leather. The woollen/velvet mix carpets look great. The high level of quality workmanship still shines through. Judging by the pristine
condition of the brown leatherwork, the car has not been used much since it was reupholstered. The interior brightwork was reapplied and the wooden dashboard was given a new layer of lacquer. All gauges and controls are, naturally, in good working order and the gear knob does its job with precision. The inside of the boot space is as well upholstered as the rest of interior and is exemplary of way the upholsterer went to task. A restoration of this quality would not be complete if the headlining was a good as the carpets.
A Maserati specialist took care of the rebuilding all things mechanic in 2016. Every gasket, ball bearing and hose was replaced. As a result the engine runs smoothly and is very powerful. The V8 engine is as want with the Mexico attached to a manual ZF 5-speed transmission. Both brakes and suspension work exactly as you would expect from this large Italian “Gran Tourer”. The driving characteristic of the Maserati Mexico is intended to convey you effortlessly over large distances. You will step out of the car after travelling from Holland to Italy as fresh as a daisy. You are also accompanied by the sonorous exhaust notes emanating form that gorgeous V8, which in this case is the very same one it left the factory with.
This is a beautifully restored and rebuilt Maserati Mexico. It is a car that drives as well as it looks. All work carried out is documented in the invoices that accompany the car.
All that rests is for you to get behind the wheel, occasionally fill her up and above all enjoy this fine piece of Italian heritage.
