Mr Virginio Vairo, we take our hats off to you. What a masterpiece Vairo drew when he was employed by Vignale. The design of the Mexico may be nearly 60 years old, but it hasn’t lost any of its beauty. This example has a fantastic colour scheme and is in beautifully restored condition. The restoration was carried out a few years ago by a Maserati specialist in Italy. This Maserati Mexico is equipped with a 4.2 litre engine and is equipped with the beloved manual transmission.

The body of the car has been completely reduced to bare metal during the restoration and has been fully restored with a great eye for detail and originality. The car was then completely repainted in this beautiful green colour. The Maserati stands on beautiful Borrani wheels that give the car a modern look. The Mexico is fitted with a lot of chrome from the factory. The chrome was also completely redone during the restoration and therefore looks beautiful. The exhaust was also renewed and the underside of the car was repainted. This is a total restoration of the purest water. Everything has been thought of.

The inside is therefore no surprise and actually, it is. The interior has been completely reupholstered but looks like it was just delivered from the factory a few years ago. It is truly a feast for the eyes. The seats have of course also been refilled and are very comfortable. The Maserati Mexico is one of those typical cars that you start driving and after a few days’ notice that you are suddenly on the other side of the continent. It’s a fantastic way to travel. While driving you have a view of those beautiful Veglia Borletti instruments while you take the wooden Nardi steering wheel and put in the gears with that beautiful wooden poker, how perfect life can be. The headlining and door panels were also completely reworked during the restoration and are still in very good condition. The carpets were also re-laid at the time and have a good fit and are in good condition.

The 4.2 litre engine is a true work of art, not only when we open the hood and look at that beautiful piece of engineering, but also while driving. The 4.2 came later in the life of the Maserati Mexico but proved more popular than the larger 4.7 engine. The engine is mated to a five-speed manual transmission and produces 260 horsepower, more than enough to propel the Maserati at an adequate speed. The engine and transmission work well together and make The Mexico a very talented Gran Tourer. The Mexico was also the first Maserati to be fitted with disc brakes all round as standard. The Mexico braking effect of the Mexico can therefore only be described as very modern. During the restoration, the entire chassis was renewed. All wishbones, springs and dampers were renewed. The driving behaviour of the Mexico is therefore particularly stable and a pleasure to be on the road with.

The restoration and overhaul of the Mexcico are fantastically documented through photos and invoices. In short, a beautiful Maserati Mexico 4.2 in a fantastic colour scheme and ditto documentation.
