In 1955, a few years after the 300SL had been on the market as a closed coupe, the German company decided to introduce an affordable two-seater that, in terms of design, was strongly inspired by its expensive and technologically advanced big brother. The 190SL, which was only available as a convertible, was equipped with a 1,897 cc four-cylinder engine coupled with a manual four-speed transmission. Unlike the 300SL, the 190SL did not have a tubular chassis; instead, a shortened chassis from the W121 sedan was used as the base.

This 190SL is in an absolutely optimal condition. After a very extensive restoration, the car can certainly be classified as “top-class.” The ivory-coloured paint gives it a classic look and is in beautiful condition. The bodywork is simply stunning, sleek, clean, and with excellent alignment of the hinged parts. The seams between the various body panels are also beautiful. All the chrome work is in almost pristine condition, with even the smallest details such as logos, slim graceful door handles, and trimmings of the lighting components being perfect.

Mercedes-Benz had designed a fantastic interior for the 190SL, with a dashboard largely executed in body colour and housing beautiful gauges. Leather dominates the interior, from the stylish dashboard and door cards to the seats, which are adorned with beautiful red leather. The carpet in the same colour completes the look. The ivory-coloured steering wheel is beautiful, and through it, the stylish and understated VDO gauges are clearly visible. What an ambiance, what class. It is evident that the interior has been fully taken care of during the restoration, as every square millimetre is flawless, perfected to the finest detail, and functions perfectly as expected from a Mercedes-Benz.

Perfection is also the keyword under the hood. The brightwork has been beautifully restored, polished components lack the too often seen dull appearance. Black-painted parts look like new, and plastic parts appear very fresh. The engine has been completely overhauled, and the four-cylinder delivers about 105 hp, enabling a top speed of just over 170 km/h. But to be honest, those are not the speeds at which this SL truly shines. It excels in sporty touring on beautiful winding roads, passing through charming villages, sometimes taking a break and, above all, turning heads as you walk away from the car; what a stunning and stylish presence.

The car comes with some documentation, the original type plates, and a USB stick with restoration photos. In short, a car without surprises.
