The Pagoda. Even before an actual model name is mentioned, almost every classic enthusiast knows which model it is: the stylish SL with upright headlights, the successor to the legendary W198 SL ‘wing door’ and its open variant. Unlike its predecessor, the Pagode is only available as an open roadster and it is clearly visible that the car was designed as a convertible. What a line!
The W113 SL owes its name Pagoda to the concave shape of the hardtop, which is reminiscent of the Chinese Pagoda roofs. You can also see the same shape in the headrests of the German convertible. The 280 SL represents a great success for Mercedes-Benz and the model is still extremely popular. The beautifully lined body, fantastic six-cylinder in-line engines and a finish that only a few exclusive competitors can match: an eternally beloved classic in all aspects.
The 280 SL that we offer here is one in a fantastic and rare color scheme: dark green paint (color code 268), a beautiful cognac interior (140) and a beige Mohair convertible top that has recently been completely renewed. We have not come across this combination before and can only say that it creates a beautiful whole.

The bodywork of the SL is very sleek, which is partly due to the previous restoration. The paint has a beautiful deep color and shine and the chrome shines just as hard or perhaps even harder. There is nothing about the exterior that is not in exceptionally beautiful condition. This cannot be otherwise if we look at the state of maintenance, but we will come back to this later.
The party inside continues as normal. The leather upholstery of the seats, the dashboard that is largely cognac: the interior is also simply perfect. The subtle wood on the center tunnel and very beautifully on the top of the dashboard is in perfect condition. It also matches the beautiful leather upholstery phenomenally, making the interior an unforgettable impression. Even the original Becker Europa is still present, as we often see these being replaced by after-market models, the original is still in it.

The year of manufacture of this SL is 1969 and that means that the most powerful version, the 280, was the only one still on the list. 170 hp strong and silky smooth, this matching numbers engine, 2,778 cc, is a reliable all-rounder. Sporty driving is absolutely possible, sporty touring is preferred. The automatic gearbox is one that received rave reviews in its time and continues to do so today. The SL is a pleasure to drive, with the driving quality, reliability and the constant feeling of being in a beautiful car making the Mercedes-Benz a huge treat.
The same applies to the bottom of this W113 SL as to the rest of the car: the overall build quality of an SL is exceptionally good and this is now reflected in the condition and finish.

Then the promised maintenance history, which is, to say the least, very rare. We have the entire history of the car, which is confirmed by the previous owner. The car was delivered new to Mrs. Ann Shaw in Pittsburgh, after which the car was sold to Texas.
At this time the car also comes with the case with all the booklets and service stickers in it. We also have photocopies of the service box containing all the stamps from the beginning, purely rare!

The car was recently provided with a full service at the Mercedes-Benz dealer amounting to more than €4,400 and is now ready to enjoy.
In short, if you are looking for a matching numbers, matching colors Mercedes-Benz 280SL with a fantastic history, we have it ready for you in Brummen.
