What we have here is a gorgeous Mercedes-Benz W112 300SE Coupé automatic. The car was supplied to its first owner on the 5th July 1963 by Mercedes-Benz Paris. Until now the car has remained in the possession of the same family and has always been very well maintained. The car still has kept the original engine it left the factory with, in other words, this is a matching numbers vehicle. Since 2006 the car has been kept in a heated garage and has recently had a major service. The dry and dark storage conditions are partially responsible for preserving the car in its fine original condition.
The well-maintained bodywork is completely original. The nice and thin panelwork is correctly aligned. The chrome bumpers and brightwork are original and gleam splendidly. The car has steel rims fitted with the original colour-coded hubcap centres. The car has benefitted from a fresh new coat of its original “Graphit Grau” (colour code: DB190). The paintwork has held up well with only a few minor blemishes detectable.
The 300SE’s totally original interior has been as well maintained as its exterior. The dashboard looks smart in its splendid condition with marvellous wood and controls in fine working order. The fully original light tan leather, both front and back, is in a very good state. The years have brought a lovely suppleness and patina to the leather. The carpets and headlining are also still original and in fine condition. The Becker Grand Prix
radio forms part of the original itinerary and is a true dashboard gem. Amazingly the radio instruction manual is also still present.
The 300SE Coupé is driven by the M189 2,996cc straight-six coupled to a 4-speed automatic. The Bosch fuel-injected engine developing 160 Ps was not the only thing innovative on the W112. It also has power steering and air suspension. Everything points to this being the top of the range model of its day. Naturally, responsive braking is courtesy of disc brakes all-around. The air suspension makes the car delightfully comfortable and the powerful engine gives, for its day, an impressive top speed of 185 km/hr.
The car comes with its complete original car wallet containing the Datenkarte confirming the matching numbers. There is no doubt this is a beautifully preserved W112 series Mercedes-Benz 300SE Coupé. Furthermore, its has always been in the hands of the same family and given heaps of tender love and attention. Perhaps its most redeeming feature is the fact the 300SE Coupé still exudes an element of refined power.
