It was Paul Bracq. He drew the fantastic classic W114 series. The Sedan was a resounding sales success. More than 1.8 million of these were sold in total. However, the coupe is much rarer. At the time, the coupé was considerably more expensive than a comparable sedan and, of course, also less suitable for use as a taxi. This example was sold new in Sweden and has had only two owners there. This is an extremely tasteful composition consisting of a green exterior, brown vinyl roof and brown half leather upholstery. This so-called “Strich Acht” is still in very good condition and therefore looks beautiful.
You can see at first glance that the time has been right for this beautiful design. What is also immediately noticeable is the originality of the car. The sheet metal is nice and thin everywhere and fits neatly. The chromed bumpers also look neat, as does the grille. This car is also equipped with the optional spotlights that give the front a slightly more aggressive look. The vinyl roof has been reupholstered in the recent past and looks like new. The paint has some traces of use here and there that match the age and mileage of the car. The 250C has original wheels fitted with the original hubcaps and painted in the color of the car. The wheels are fitted with good tires in the correct sizes with a subtle whitewall.
The interior of the 250C is equally beautiful and original. The upholstery consists of half leather and half fabric and is in beautiful condition. The door panels are covered with beautiful brown artificial leather and the headliner is also in beautiful condition. The dashboard is also completely original and an example of German solidity. There is no doubt that the W114 is built like a tank. What is also striking is that this copy is equipped with the beloved manual transmission. While most cars are equipped with the automatic transmission that actually takes all the fun out of the car, this example is equipped with the fine-shifting manual transmission with four gears. The last striking part on this car is the factory-fitted sunroof.
The technique has always been well maintained and that is immediately noticeable while driving. The transmission shifts precisely and has fine gear ratios. The engine is the indestructible M114 2.5 liter inline six. The engine produces 143 hp and has a beautiful run. It makes the 250C a delicious Gran Tourer. The engine compartment looks neat. The W114 was the first generation of post-war Mercedes-Benz cars to be rebuilt from the ground up. The car steers much better than its predecessors. This is one of those typical cars that you can drive all day long, as hard as it goes, on the Autobahn without you or the car getting tired. An occasional cup of coffee for the driver and a tank of 98 for the car.
The car comes with the original manual. In short, a beautiful and nowadays rare Mercedes-Benz W114 250C in a beautiful condition and fantastic color scheme.
