Peter , born in 1934 in Switzerland, was involved with cars from an early age. After some personal projects, he became a supplier for Ferrari in Switzerland in 1956. Soon, multiple brands were added to the portfolio. In 1965, disagreements arose with Ferrari, resulting in no more cars being supplied to Monteverdi. Instead of fully focusing on other brands, Monteverdi introduced his own sports car, the High Speed 375 S, powered by a 7.2-liter V8 Chrysler engine.
Initially planning to build 20 cars, this was scaled up to 100 units. Consequently, the construction of the coupe designed by Frua was transferred to Fissore. Monteverdi quickly realised that there was more demand for a four-seater coupe than for his two-seater model, leading to the introduction of the 375 L in 1969. A very early example from that first year of production is now located in Brummen.
This 375 L is in excellent condition. It is an incredibly original and unrestored car, a ‘survivor.’ Almost certainly, it retains its original mileage. The car has previously been given a fresh coat of paint, a beautiful deep blue shade complemented by stunning cognac leather.
The body and the interior give a fresh impression and convince in terms of originality. Many of these rare and exceptional cars are, over the decades, somewhat spoiled with non-original parts, but this car still looks as it should.
The fantastic 7.2-litre V8 from Chrysler runs smoothly and is quite ‘foolproof.’ It remains a beautiful concept to equip stunning Italian cars with a robust American power plant. The engine is paired with a smoothly shifting automatic transmission.
The underside of the car is also tidy and original, and finally, the original instruction book is present, along with some other documentation.
