Let us first help a misconception out of the world. This was the first car to be produced on an assembly line, not the Ford Model T as so often is assumed to be. Admittedly the production method for the 6C was not as sophisticated as the Ford’s process. At Ford the assembly line moved, whilst at Oldsmobile the people move along the line. This Oldsmobile 6C “Curved Dash” has been very sympathetically restored and is in a wonderful condition. In the later stages of the 19th century Detroit was a veritable hive of activity surrounding the emergence of the car industry. Oldsmobile is a great brand with a fantastic past and this car represents one of the models that started that story. It was an overnight success and during its run about 19,000 cars were sold. Substantive numbers for that period.

Our car is in a wonderful restored condition. The Oldsmobile 6C was also known as the “Curved Dash”. Early cars all look like a coach without horses with the Oldsmobile 6C being no exception. They did not resemble anything we see on the roads today. This type of car was called a “Runabout” as they were not suitable to cover larger distances and mainly used in cities. The car has place for two people and is steered using a rod directly attached to the front wheels. The fully rebuilt engine is richly adorned with cooper parts. It is a wonderful piece of old fashioned technology simply not seen these days. The one cylinder engine delivers its power using a chain to the rear wheels. It a two forward gears and one reverse. Blasting ones horn is done by means of one of those iconic air pressure horns attached to the steering rod. The bodywork is in great shape and during the restoration it was decided to spray it in the same colour as the original Oldsmobile 6C prototype.

This Oldsmobile comes with a manual explaining how to use and drive the car. It is always great fun to be out and about with these cars and they are always a welcome sight at any event. This, in short, is a

very rare Oldsmobile 6C “Curved Dash” wonderfully preserved for the future after its restoration and mechanical rebuild.
