Travel back in time with this elegant . The RM series was the last series of cars that Riley developed independently before the merger of Riley’s Nuffield Organisation with Austin in 1952 to form BMC. Originally made in Coventry, production moved to MG in Abingdon by 1949.

While the RMA and RME were equipped with a 1.5-liter engine, the RMB and its successor, the RMF, had the large 2.5-liter engine, also known as the ‘Big-Four’, with twin SU carburettors and twin camshafts. In RMF form, the engine delivered as much as 100 horsepower, making it very enjoyable to drive this car.

Additionally, Riley equipped the RMF with fully hydraulic drum brakes, unlike the previous models, and this model featured independent front suspension and rack-and-pinion steering, providing excellent driving characteristics and stability for that time. This model was on the market for less than two years, and Riley produced only 1,050 units before the Pathfinder debuted in 1954.

Our example dates back to 1956 and is in excellent condition. In the 1990s, this Riley underwent a ‘nut and bolt’ restoration, including a mechanical overhaul. Accompanying this Riley is an extensive document folder and two large photo albums depicting the restoration process. Included is a comprehensive restoration report and various maintenance and parts invoices.

The car is in overall beautiful and well-maintained condition. The restoration work has resulted in a beautiful paint finish, along with lovely chrome bumpers. The body parts fit neatly and are nicely aligned. The same applies underneath the car. The interior makes a well-cared-for impression. The instrumentation is really quite fetching and in very good condition. The extensive literature accompanying the car shows that the interior also benefited from the restoration work. Under the hood, we find the impressive 2.5-liter Big-Four. The unit runs really smoothly with a beautiful exhaust sound. Due to features like independent front suspension and rack-and-pinion steering, this Riley offers excellent driving characteristics, providing a surprisingly enjoyable experience on the road. With its predictable handling and classic body lines, this car is very suitable for tours and rallies.
