With the P6, the designers aimed to create a car that would appeal to a broader range of buyers, compared to previous Rover models, such as the P4. We can cautiously express our opinion that this objective was certainly achieved. Not only were many buyers charmed by the striking new sedan, but the European automotive press also voted the Rover as Car of the Year in 1964. The 3500 was introduced in 1968, shortly after the company had been taken over by British Leyland. Featured under the bonnet was a magnificent aluminium V8 engine with a capacity of 3,528 cc.

Rover presented this engine as a groundbreaking phenomenon, and then claimed that the engine weighed no more than a conventional four-cylinder. With a magnificent engine that was not only lightweight but also had much to offer in terms of performance, the Rover’s capabilities were excellent. The acceleration times were also very impressive for that time. As a result, the P6 3500 was significantly faster than most of its competitors. In 1970, the Rover received an upgrade, including new lights. It also now sported an
instrumentation change to round gauges and knobs. The last Rover P6 rolled off the production line in 1977. The SD1 successor was a significantly different car with a far more modern design. We consider the P6 to be a great Rover with the lovely engine. Therefore, it is not surprising to us that this model is considered the last classic Rover, and that these models are more popular than ever.

The car we have on offer here is from 1975 and is equipped with an automatic transmission. This specimen underwent restoration and mechanical overhaul work in the past and as a result, the car looks very nice. We would be happy to describe the exterior as being very neatly presented, with a sleek body. The body colour, done in ‘Tobacco Leaf Brown’, has a good finish quality to it. Brightwork items such as the bumpers show normal signs of use, and the rubbers are in good shape. Inside, you will be pleased to find very nice upholstery. The black leather upholstery was renewed and is well presented. The dashboard and instrumentation look very fetching, as does the headliner.

Of course, this specimen has the great sounding V8 on board, which is good for excellent performance. The engine runs smoothly and sounds fantastic (we hasten to repeat!). Due to the overhaul work in the past, mechanically the Rover’s condition is also in fine order. The car drives well, and with the automatic transmission, you will be on your way in great comfort.
