We have added a fantastic “Derby Bentley” for you into our collection. Derby Bentley’s were so named because they were built in the Rolls-Royce Derby plant. This specific example was originally supplied in 1936 and currently has the “Open Tourer” body inspired by the Le Mans racing Bentley’s. The body is perfectly proportioned. The car looks and works in optimal condition. It has the favoured 4 ¼ engine. The additional advantage of having the Open Tourer body is its contribution to lowering the car’s weight, thereby aiding acceleration and braking.
The previous British owner, an absolute Bentley enthusiast, looked after the car in exceptional fashion. He only used the very best of the UK’s Bentley experts to work on the car. For instance a Mr. Ford of Priory Vintage Cars was commissioned to tune the car. We also see names like Bob Petersen Engineering and Fiennes Restoration pop up, all very well-known and highly acclaimed experts.
You can readily appreciate this is a very fine example. Thanks to the aforementioned expert attention the car’s handling is formidable. The 4 ¼ litre straight-six runs smoothly and with its large capacity always has ample power under the hood. Its light weight and large engine always ensures that driving this Bentley is a veritable feast. The transmission and brakes are both extremely accurate. The addition of the made-to measure stainless steel exhaust system emits a fantastic sound.
The bodywork is in peak condition and has a splendid finish. The body fitted to the running gear is made up out of a wooden frame, clad in leather and metal panelling. All of this is in very good shape. The car is lacking doors. Thanks to the step-plates, adorned with the Bentley logo, getting into the car is child-play. You take place on well formed sports seats covered in nicely preserved lovely black leather. Carpets and the dashboard are in good condition with all of the authentic instruments in correct working oder. A hood is available for when the weather lets you down. When down the hood is neatly stored under a tonneau cover. For those looking for a pure motoring experience, the windscreen folds down, letting you enjoy this Bentley in unprotected fashion.
The accompanying documentation is the icing on the cake. There are copies of the factory documents. The previous British owner also kept the extensive correspondence he had with the various experts he used. All this perfectly demonstrates the manner in which he looked after the car. The invoices also details the thorough way the Bentley was tuned.
This is a fantastic Derby Bentley with a marvellous provenance and gorgeous open tourer bodywork, giving this car a divine pre-war racer appearance. The car’s excellent condition lends itself to enjoying a Sunday afternoon drive as well as rallies lasting more than a day. Pleasure driving and the experiencing the “Bentley Boy” life, come as guaranteed!
