For years, the Citroën DS was primarily known as the ‘snoek’ (pike) in Holland, but enthusiasts now increasingly refer to this unique classic by its official model name. Nevertheless, this French car deserves its own chapter in any book about classic cars. From the first series with single headlights to the later versions with glass-covered lighting, the DS was far ahead of its time, making it still a delight to look at and drive today.

The golden (Sable Métallisé) DS 21 Pallas with a copper-coloured roof you see here is a car that you would want to hit the road with immediately to take for beautiful rides. If there is one car that has completely unique driving characteristics, it is the DS, and this powerful and luxurious Pallas is also a highly sought-after model. This Pallas is in excellent condition and is extremely suitable for enjoyable use.

The body of the DS is clean. The paintwork is neat and has a beautiful lustre. In general, a DS is not known for having very tight gaps between the smoothly shaped panels, but with this DS, everything can be considered “normal for a DS.” The aluminium and chrome are in good condition, although the weather has affected some parts of the material. It is not bothersome, but we deliberately refrain from using the term “perfect” here.

The interior beautifully complements the golden paint colour with chocolate brown leather upholstery. It is not new but still lovely, with the kind of beautiful patina we like to see in a DS. The centre armrest has some damage, but the rest of the interior is fully intact. When you take a seat in the armchairs, you immediately notice what makes a DS special. Not only is the hydraulic suspension a typical feature, but the soft seats are as well. In front of you is the characteristic dashboard of the DS, with three large round meters and a steering wheel with only one spoke. The entire interior can be described as “neat,” although signs of use are visible.

The 2.1-litre four-cylinder engine is a well-known power source among DS enthusiasts. It produces 109 horsepower and has a displacement of 2,175 cc. In 1970, the DS 21 was equipped with Bosch electronic injection as standard, making it one of the first cars for the “masses” to do away with carburettors. The carbureted version remained available for some time and is the variant you see here. The DS on this page is equipped with a five-speed manual gearbox. It was not standard at the time but had to be selected as an option.

Consistent with the rest of the car, the chassis is in good condition. No apparent work has been done, and none is needed. Apart from signs of use, it can be classed as being “good.”

You shouldn’t miss out on this DS if you are looking for one of the most comfortable classics out there and simply want to enjoy driving.
