is now more successful than ever when it comes to sales numbers. Yet we sometimes hear that that takes away the exclusive a bit. In the 1990s it was very different. Ferraris were not sold in droves and encountering one ‘in the wild’ was a rarity. One of the last models to which this applies is the F355.

The F355 is in many ways ‘the last’, it is the last model of the brand that was introduced with pop-up headlights and the typical line from the 80s and 90s, which the F355 inherited from the 348, are indicative of a period of time. The F355 is the first production car to come on the market with a so-called F1 transmission. The same gearbox as the manual version, but with an electro-hydraulic system that operates the gearbox by means of ‘flippers’ behind the steering wheel. A clutch pedal is no longer necessary and the hands can remain on the wheel at all times. While the F1 transmission was quite a favored option at the time, today the 6-speed manual is the favorite. And that is exactly what we offer.

This F355 Spider dates from March 1997. Perhaps the buyer decided to purchase the car after seeing the Bond film ‘Goldeneye’, where Famke Janssen makes the F355 shine in a beautiful, long chase scene. Red was not the first owner’s favorite color: he opted for the rarer Nero 1240 over a Cuio leather interior. What a wonderful combination!
The first owner, from Beverly Hills, took delivery of the car at Ferrari San Francisco. Undoubtedly, the producer’s films and series have done him no harm, he purchased the car after having made the necessary productions. He was probably still busy after the purchase because the car did not drive much in those years, if we see that today a very small 15,656 miles have been driven by the car.
It will therefore not come as a surprise that the car is largely in its first paint and that paint is also still in a very good condition. All the sheet metal fits together perfectly and the doors open and close very easily if you manage to find the hidden door handle. The 18” wheels are in top condition and together they give the F355 a look to put through the proverbial ring.

The interior is also in an exceptional condition: the leather on the dashboard often peels off, making it wavy, but this car is completely pristine. The seats also hardly show that they have been sat in, nor do they let you feel it with tight and tight-fitting cheeks. The sitting position is typical Ferrari of that time: slightly bent knees and the steering wheel a little further away from you than expected. What you will not encounter are a sticky air conditioning panel or sticking window controls. No doubt you won’t miss it. The Spider you see here is a top model in every way.

Under the feather-light hood you will find a formidable 3.5 liter eight-cylinder with 5 valves per cylinder. This also explains the name, where Ferrari deviated from it to the normal naming. The V8 is capable of great deeds with its 380 hp. You can reach 100 from a standstill in less than 5 seconds and the intermediate sprints are even more impressive. The latter, incidentally, not only because of the figures, but also because of the great howl of the eight-cylinder. When the red area is approaching on the tachometer, shifting via the steel shift pattern is a joy. The term ‘click-clack’ should be here today.
The handling is particularly good, it is not for nothing that the F355 can be found in a large number of racing classes at that time. The street car has a chassis that has two positions: Comfort and Sport, anything but standard in the late 1990s. With this F355 everything functions as it should.

The car, which comes from the second owner, is equipped with all original books, maps and documents that were new upon delivery, of course in a beautiful leather case. All type plates are also present in the car, still neatly with the original pop rivets, a very original and unspoiled car.

In addition to being a fantastic classic in the making, this F355 is also not a bad choice in terms of investment. Still, nothing beats turning the key on this Spider, bringing the V8 to life, grabbing the wonderful-feeling aluminum gear knob and enjoying. What a delight!
