In America, achieved great success with the sporty Mustang and aimed to replicate that success in Europe with a similar recipe tailored to the European market: an affordable sports car with four seats and reliable technology. In January 1969 the Capri was unveiled at the Brussels Motor Show and a month later, the well-received model could now be ordered from Ford dealerships.
Underneath, the Capri heavily relies on the Cortina. With a range of four-cylinder and six-cylinder engines, the Capri quickly captured the attention of the general public. The Motorsport Department in Cologne was given the green light to work on a racing Capri, resulting in the RS2600. Based on the top-of-the-line model of that time, the 2600GT. Ford achieved significant successes with the car in rallying, but it became clear the true potential of the RS2600 was unleashed at the racetrack.

In Group 2 trim, the enlarged 2,995 cc Capris deliver tremendous success. With power outputs of up to 320 hp, they are incredibly fast cars for their time. The suspension, wheels, and brakes were modified, and many fibreglass panels were used for the bodywork. A defining moment of victory for Ford came in 1972 when a Capri RS was crowned as the “European Touring Car Champion” with Jochen Mass behind the wheel.

In 1972, this truly fantastic RS2600 was delivered to its first owner in Germany, sporting the stunning Le Mans Green colour combined with fabric upholstery in the interior. As you can see, fortunately, the extensive and professional restoration has retained the original colour for the bodywork and materials for the interior. Since the restoration, the car has barely been driven, except for a few enjoyable rides.
The entire car is in concours condition. The green with black paintwork is in pristine condition, with every detail beautifully preserved, including the original wheels, which, considering the restoration, we could almost say “obviously.”

You probably never had a moment’s doubt that the interior is in as splendid condition as the exterior of this Ford, but let us emphasize it nonetheless: the exceptionally well-preserved dashboard is original and houses all the gauges. Six of them are on display to provide you with essential information. The RS steering wheel is intact, and speaking of intact: what amazing sports seats! They are upholstered in the original ribbed fabric and are even more comfortable than they appear. Simply stunning! The carpets, details, and controls are all in beautiful and functional condition.

The Weslake-built Cologne 2,637 cc V6 engine features special aluminium cylinder heads and delivers 150 hp of power. A close-ratio gearbox and ventilated disc brakes make driving an extra sporty experience. Extracting everything from the 2.6-litre six-cylinder, the Ford reaches 100 kilometres per hour in just 7.7 seconds, which was undeniably fast in 1972.

With this Capri, you can participate in events such as Le Mans Classic and Tour Auto. It is undoubtedly a car that attracts a lot of attention, and insiders estimate that only around a hundred RS2600s still exist.
For a long time, the Capri was an underappreciated car, but now people are starting to realize how much fun and beautiful owning a Capri can be. The RS2600 variant has become a highly sought-after classic that was high on many wish lists back in the day, especially in one of the most beloved and distinctive colours, like this particular example.
