If you look at the total sales numbers of the 403, the share of the 403 convertible is very minimal. Between 1955 and 1965 Peugeot sold 1.2 million 403s. Only 2,043 of these were a 403 Cabriolet. Unlike most Peugeots of that time, the 403 was built in Italy at Pininfarina. Pininfarina was responsible for the design and was also allowed to build the car. The 403 Cabriolet was also the start of a very long relationship between the Italian design house and the French car manufacturer that would last up to and including the beautiful 406 coupé. The relatively low sales numbers were actually a direct result of the hefty extra price compared to a regular 403. For the price of a 403 convertible you could buy almost two regular 403s. In the 1970s, the fame of the 403 Cabriolet was given another boost thanks to the hit series Colombo. However, the model’s popularity waned in subsequent years and as a result, few copies of the 403 Cabriolet have survived. According to the experts, it could be less than 200 in the worst case!

This example was delivered new in France on September 15, 1958. It is in beautiful condition. The body is completely original. The sheet metal is still exactly as it came from the factory and the chrome on the body is also in very nice and above all original condition. The Gris Foncé Metallisé paint has already been repainted once for cosmetic reasons and looks beautiful. The car is fitted with original Robergel spoke rims and the convertible top has also recently been completely renewed. The hood is of course easy to operate and is in very good condition.

The interior has been completely reupholstered with beautiful red leather and well-fitting carpets. The interior looks just like the exterior to get through a ring. The seats are not only re-upholstered but also re-filled and are very comfortable. The dashboard is also completely original and looks wonderfully original.

The technology has been completely overhauled. The engine has been completely disassembled and subjected to a total restoration. The transmission has also been completely overhauled and shifts well. The car is powered by a 1.5 liter four-cylinder engine that produces 65 hp and is mated to a four-speed manual transmission. The brakes and chassis were also completely renewed during the overhaul and contribute to the good driving behavior of the Peugeot 403.

The car comes with documentation about the history of the car, the work performed and general information about the model. In short, a beautiful Peugeot 403 Cabriolet that is not only very rare these days, but also stands out because of those wonderfully understated Pininfarina lines.
