When Mercedes Benz introduces a new S Class it is never done lightly. For decades this model has represented the flagship of the brand and demonstrates what Mercedes is capable of from a technical standpoint at that particular moment in time.

In 1979 the W126 generation was introduced as the successor to the W116. This new S Class was developed with a clear focus: greater safety, increased comfort and improved aerodynamic efficiency. The design appeared sharper and more modern than its predecessor, yet it remained unmistakably recognizable as a Mercedes Benz.

The body was carefully engineered to reduce aerodynamic drag, something that was becoming increasingly important during that period. At the same time Mercedes introduced several technical improvements in the field of passive safety.

Within the model range the 280 S occupied a distinctive position. This version was equipped with a 2.8 liter inline six engine with a carburetor. A remarkably reliable engine known for delivering many miles of dependable service.

As with every S Class comfort remained the central theme. The long wheelbase, the smooth character of the engine and the high quality interior construction created what the Germans themselves describe as “Schwermaschinenbau”. The result was a car appreciated both by business drivers and by enthusiasts who value exceptional long distance comfort.

The example we present here is special in several respects. This Mercedes Benz 280 S from 1988 shows a mileage of only 16,000 kilometers. This is exceptionally low and the condition of this Mercedes reflects exactly what one would expect. When you look at the car it becomes immediately clear how well preserved it has remained. The car presents beautifully, both the exterior and the interior.

This Mercedes is finished in Classic White 737G combined with a beautiful velour interior. A combination that was often chosen at the time for a stylish and timeless appearance.
In terms of equipment the car is also very well specified. Among the features are a four speed automatic transmission, automatic climate control, power windows, tinted heat insulating glass and electrically adjustable seats. In the rear compartment curtains are fitted for both the side and rear windows, a detail frequently selected in this class to enhance passenger comfort.

When you open the hood you will still see the original protective coatings and factory stickers that often disappear over time due to heat and use. The interior leaves a similar impression. The seats, dashboard and upholstery appear as though the car only recently left the showroom.

For enthusiasts of the W126 generation this represents a wonderful opportunity to encounter an example that remains remarkably close to its original condition. A Mercedes Benz S Class exactly as customers would have collected it from the dealership in the nineteen eighties.
